Willow Foraging Basket

Learn the basics of this ancient craft and leave with your very own traditional foraging basket. You will be using local willow, in a range of colours, and foraged bramble to make a small frame basket – perfect for harvesting the abundance of fruit in our hedgerows.

For anyone who wants to, we will spend a small portion of the day foraging for bramble in the woods at Hawkwood.

What Is Included

For the majority of our courses, both residential and non-residential rates are available. Residential options are fully inclusive with all meals provided. Non-residential options include suppers, lunches and all refreshments and exclude B&B. Some of our short day courses, events and talks do not include meals and refreshments. Practical Information

The course starts at 9:30am, you are welcome to arrive from 9:15am. The course will finish with tea and cake at 4pm. Wear warm clothes, and if you have a pair of sharp secateurs, bring those along (there will be enough if not).

Please note that weaving with willow can be hard work on your hands.

Come and join Dee Aebischer, a qualified guide with the UK Forest Bathing Institute, who holds a Masters & PhD in Forest Science, as she leads you on a journey of discovery through the art of Forest Bathing (also known as Shinrin Yoku). This gentle, nature-based therapeutic practice was developed in Japan during the 1980s, with the purpose of reducing stress and enhancing mental and physical wellbeing. Although Shinrin Yoku is translated as “forest bathing”, there is no water involved, the term rather describes a state of becoming fully immersed in the forest atmosphere through awareness, observation and meditation.

When this happens and you are truly immersed in the moment of creating you can relax and allow the flow and freedom of painting to begin. This workshop is suitable for all abilities even those who have not picked up a paintbrush before. We will use the beautiful surroundings of Hawkwood to inspire us and have an enjoyable day of painting abstracts

Eating Wild

Eating Wild

Join an immersive course on foraging that will inform and delight you, leaving you confident and inspired to explore wild food. This course will go a lot further than nettles and pesto and many unexpected plants will be covered. This course aims to envelop you in the wilderness while learning about it to fully understand the importance and joy of foraging and eating wild food. Lunch and refreshments included.
