Artist Residency Programme

Creating, Collaborating & Cultivating Artistry

At Hawkwood, we proudly open our doors to approximately 100 artists each year, spanning various disciplines. Our vibrant Artist Residency Programme, generously supported by The Francis W Reckitt Arts Trust, offers a haven for creativity and collaboration.

Since its launch in 2016, our Artist Residency Programme has left a national footprint, leaving an indelible mark on diverse art forms. Musicians, writers, visual artists, theatre practitioners, and interdisciplinary artists find solace and inspiration within our tranquil haven.

Join a community of artists who have left their mark on our landscapes and shared their stories within our walls. Experience the transformative power of dedicated creative time, the support of fellow artists, and the inspiring backdrop of Hawkwood.

Our Application Process

To be eligible for this programme you need to be both:

  1. A professional artist, which means that you are engaged in your artistic pursuits and perhaps trained for them. You should be known for that work, and earn income from it.
  2. Your financial situation is such that you cannot afford to take up this residency and require financial assistance.

We welcome applications from all genres of the arts including music, visual arts, performance arts, literature, etc. With regard to theatre applications, we cannot accept applications from theatre practitioners who wish to rehearse an already-written play.

We reserve the right to request further information.

If you are applying as a group, please let us know the amount of people in the group. The application form should be filled out by the lead contact for the group, we will request applications from the other group members at a later date.

Please note that there is no deadline for applications; all are reviewed and offers are made as and when we have funding available.

If you have any queries, please email info@hawkwoodcollege.co.uk.

Generously Supported By:

The Francis W Reckitt Arts Trust

We are fortunate to be supported by The Francis W Reckitt Arts Trust, which provides substantial funding towards board and lodging for the artists. Hawkwood supplies a working space (usually in our art studios) and curates the artists and projects.

If appropriate, we offer the opportunity to showcase work as part of our events programme or host informal exhibitions. We are also delighted to be working in partnership with local, regional and national organisations on this programme, creating a cultural hub in the heart of the Cotswolds that supports creative professionals of all ages. Regular partners include Strike a Light Gloucester, The Roundhouse and The Royal Court Theatre.

Artist Residency Reports

We are happy to share our programme reports here summarising Hawkwood's yearly artist residency programmes.

Our reports give an overview of the artists and projects that have been developed in 2018 - 2022, supported by The Francis W Reckitt Arts Trust and Hawkwood. We have welcomed a broad range of creative people from diverse backgrounds working on extraordinary projects and have partnered with regional and national organisations.

“I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to the team at Hawkwood for having us with you last week. It was such an incredible week and really gave our group time and space to create and grow as individuals and as a group. We’ve had such lovely feedback from everyone saying how much it has helped them all as artists and they’ve all really challenged themselves and their writing. Also, we’ve had lots of comments about how beautiful and inspiring the house and its surroundings were.”
